30-pound cat dropped off at shelter

He looks like the cat that ate the 1,000 canaries.

This tubby tabby named SpongeBob, who weighs a massive 30 pounds, was dropped off two months ago at a shelter in SoHo where he’s having trouble finding a new home because of his girth.

“I think people are intimidated,” said Kendra Mara (pictured), associate director of the Animal Haven shelter. “They think they’ll need more space for him, but really they don’t.”

  1. That cat isn't terribly fat. He's just a monster. He is the size of a mountain lion. If I did not have four parakeets, I'd have a cat. I love cats, but I do not want a Sylvester / Tweety Bird scenario in my house.

I am glad to see your website, Art Bell. I miss you on the radio.

  2. I think he's amazing. You'd think people would be CLAMORING to adopt him (he's so unique). *At my pet limit with two pets or I'd definitely take him*

  3. Ahm...the photograph of this cat looks a bit fake...I'm not saying one way or another, but look closely at the shadows & angles, also the overall lighting balance on the cat as compared to the rest of the photo.
