Ghost Photos from Northern India

These photos were taken in December, 2001, during my trip to India. The graveyard is an old British graveyard in Mussoorie, which is in the foothills of the Himalayas, in Uttar Pradesh. It is located on Camel Back Road. It is a beautiful graveyard that stretches down the side of a mountain and it's still in use today but is kept locked (a little candy induced some local boys to help me I find a way in). All of the photos were taken with a Pentax PC-330 using 24 exposure Kodak Gold 400 film in the late afternoon. The film was developed in New Delhi. I took the photos myself and they have not been altered or retouched in any way (other than the boys' faces being obscured, for obvious reasons), so some of the photos are kind of dark because it was getting dark as I took them and I didn't lighten them.

The photo of the tall tombstone (headstone.jpg) with the figure in front of it is the one that makes me GAPE! WHAT is THAT? There wasn't anything at all in front of the tombstone when I took the photo! It's far too complex to be a shadow. It seems to be slightly translucent because along the right side of the inscription (above the "head" of the figure) the stone is a little darker, and you can follow the straight edge of that darkness all the way down, even behind the head of the figure. Gives me chills to look at it. There was nothing behind me that could have reflected such an image because the cemetary was built in stair-step fashion, like little narrow cliffs, down the side of the mountain so the only thing directly behind me was the edge of the cliff I was standing on. It looks like an angel...? At least that's what I hope it is! Something or someone praying over the grave? Taking something out of the grave? There's an orb right where the heart of the figure would be.

Most of the other photos are of orbs but there are two that are of something else. The one on the stairs (cemetaryghost.jpg) in particular strikes me because I was making my way down the stairs when something distinctly told me to turn around and take a photo of the staircase, which otherwise held no interest for me. There was nothing on the staircase at the time and the camera had no strap. A similar entity shows up in celticstone.jpg. Has anyone suggested these entities might be rods or would rods move too quickly to be captured on 400 film?
By the way, I was travelling for 11 weeks and took nearly 60 rolls of film. Interestingly, the photos of the graveyard were the only photos that came out with orbs on them!

Since I snuck into the graveyard, please don't use my full name (just use "Kelley in Arizona"). If you'd like to verify the photos, feel free to contact me (but don't give out my contact information or list it on the website, please!):

  1. A hair in front of the camera lens possibly? It happened to me many times because I have longer hair.
