Kitty Earns Her Wings

KITTEN UNITES AIR LINES AND EARNS HER WINGS

~Tail of Two Cities ~ The Tale of No Tail ~ A Tail of Kindness ~ A Warm Fuzzy Story

After 9/11 the Angels are back in the air, and safely flying with a kitten, "Miss Wings," leading the way.

Mary Ellen is not just the author of books on Miracles; "Expect Miracles" is her way of life, because she lives in the world of Angels and Miracles.

Her first miracle this year involves four strangers across America united in an amazing series of acts of kindness.

Mary Ellen had breast cancer a year and a half ago. The day before she was diagnosed her younger sister was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic and liver cancer.

Her sister died six weeks later and Mary Ellen decided not to wait for her dream of a Shaded Silver Persian kitten and has been looking ever since.

She inquired at her veterinary clinic, searched in Oregon and Washington State newspapers and the local animal shelter, and a Shaded Silver Persian kitten appeared impossible to find.

In late November Mary Ellen, in Oregon, did a computer search and found Linda, in Boston, who has been breeding Shaded Silver Persians for 15 years at www.silverpersians.com

Without a doubt Linda has the prettiest kittens; but on the other side of the country -- and Linda does not ship her kittens!

Mary Ellen knew she could not afford the beautiful purebreds and it was impossible to have one delivered out west.

On December 8th a kitten was born to one of Linda's Persians, and it sustained a tail injury. (The kitten's tail fell off three weeks after birth.)

Linda fretted daily about finding a loving home for her less than purrfect kitten.

On December 16th Linda took two of her older kittens to the Lynn, Massachusetts camera club to be photographed.

When the photographers produced tiny Angel wings, as props for the pictures, an idea formulated with Linda, that "maybe" her special kitten is to be Mary Ellen's, coinciding with her pen name of "Angel Scribe."

Christmas arrived and Mary Ellen's daughter, Ariel, gave her a sweat shirt with a picture of a Persian kitten in a Christmas stocking.

The caption read, "Dear Santa, Please bring me a kitten."

Mary Ellen, "I cried when I opened the gift. Its message is so clearly how I felt about a kitten."

At the end of December Linda, in Boston, wrote Mary Ellen, in Oregon, and offered her the gift of the kitten, because of Mary Ellen's free Internet "Angels and Miracles" newsletter...Linda knew the kitten would have a loving home with Mary Ellen.

Linda, "I know the kitten will have the very best home and be treated equally to the other cats in the house. It is very important to me to find the 'purrfect home' for my less than purrfect kitty."

Linda says, "Mary Ellen, thank you for being there for her. The kitten is growing more beautiful every day. She is by far my most beautiful kitten I have ever had."

Wishing for a kitten and then one manifesting was a miracle for Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen named her miracle kitten "Miss Wings," because Linda posted a picture of the tailless kitten on the website, with a set of tiny angel wings on her back.

Although the kitten has no tail, she has wings!

Miss Wings is also the nickname Tess uses in the TV show "Touched by An Angel" when she lovingly calls Monica. Also, the kitten will be flying across America, like a flight attendant earning her wings.

Finding a good home for her special kitten was a blessing for Linda -- the only problem remaining was how to transport the kitten to Oregon?

Another one of Mary Ellen's many volunteer jobs is to book client appointments for a friend. Clients often discover the friend's website or hear her on the radio, and then contact Mary Ellen for an appointment.

Two days after being offered the kitten Cheri telephoned from Cincinnati for an appointment. When Cheri relayed her E-mail address as DELTA, Mary Ellen knew a 2nd miracle was about to manifest!

She asked Cheri if that meant Delta Airlines...when it was confirmed, Mary Ellen told Cheri the tale of the tailless kitten.

Cheri said, "Where is it? Where do you want it to go? I am a flight attendant and will fly her to you for free."

It did not faze Cheri that she had to fly back and forth across America on her act of kindness.

When asked why she would do such a thing for a total stranger Cheri sincerely and simply said, "Many others have done kind things for me and I want to do this for you."

Mary Ellen is reading the book, "Pay it Forward" and the book encourages others to Pay Acts of Kindness Forward, but she never expected to be on the receiving end of an act of kindness like this. She had the blessing of a free kitten and now a free delivery!

To save Cheri flying time from Cincinnati, to Boston, and then back to Cincinnati, then out to Portland, Oregon it seemed a good idea to ask Mary Ellen's Angels and Miracles newsletter readers if anyone else could help.

Only one person answered the request. Only Annette out of 50,000 readers.

Annette has been reading the Angels and Miracles newsletters for two years. When she read how the kitten needed help crossing America she immediately forwarded the E-mail newsletter to Vivian, her flight attendant sister with US Airways, in Maryland.

Vivian promptly wrote Mary Ellen and offered to fly Miss Wings the entire way across America. She loves cats and has done rescue work with animals in her area. Vivian also volunteered to dedicate her travel time and expenses for the journey.

Vivian usually flies East to Paris and is excited to arrange a trip West with Miss Wings and hold her for a few hours.

Vivian, "I just melted when I saw Miss Wing's picture on the Internet and wanted to be part of her life if only for a few hours."

Flight Attendants Vivian and Cheri were promptly connected, and the two of them are working on the details to share the kitten and the flights to her new home, when Miss Wings is old enough to make the journey.

Four strangers and a kitten connected in an ever growing miracle -- because of an act of kindness.

Miss Wings is five weeks old and growing stronger every day.

When she is old enough she will fly with her Earth Angel Flight attendants from two different airlines across America to her new home.

This act of kindness would not have manifested without the help of a few of the many Angels found in the airlines industry.

Their story proves the existence of many good people from one end of the country to the other!

Miss Wings illustrates how we do not have to be purrfect to bring joy to others -- and how we can bring strangers together in a simple act of kindness -- wrapped in a miracle.

It is beyond a doubt that this kitten showing up is miraculous because the connections where made over the Christmas holidays and Mary Ellen's second book is, "A Christmas Filled With Miracles" and her life truly is.

Special Note:

As the plans were developing for Miss Wings safe flight one more E-mail arrived from a kind soul, Dawn, who reads the newsletters and she offered, "If the kitten can't fly, maybe she can drive. I'll volunteer to drive her from somewhere in Indiana to somewhere in Iowa, but as we know Angels are supposed to fly!"

Taken with the kindness of this offer Mary Ellen thanked Dawn and then another synchronicity became evident in Dawn's next E-mail.

Dawn, "I am the public relations director for The Joffrey Ballet, and also do work for the Trinity Irish Dance Company. I'd be glad to offer my services."

Dawn did not know Miss Wings mother's name. It is Ballerina!
